Terms of Service

Acceptance

By using Big Thinkers, you agree to these terms. If you are under 18, your parent, guardian, or school must authorize your use of the service. If you are under 13, an account may only be created after we receive verifiable parental consent or authorization from your school.

Educational use

Big Thinkers is provided for educational purposes. School-deployed accounts are authorized for classroom use only and may not be used for commercial subscriptions without separate parental consent. We act as a service provider to schools and use student information solely to provide the educational service the school has engaged us for.

Accounts

Users under 13 require verifiable parental consent or school authorization before an account is created. You are responsible for the accuracy of the information you provide and for keeping your login credentials secure. You may not share your account or use another person's account without permission.

Acceptable use

You agree to use Big Thinkers only for its intended educational purpose. You may not attempt to disrupt or gain unauthorized access to the service, reverse engineer it, scrape or harvest data, upload unlawful or harmful content, or use the service in any way that violates applicable law or the rights of others.

AI-powered features

Some lessons include interactive features that send a learner's typed input to a third-party AI model in order to generate a response. These responses are generated automatically, are provided for educational purposes, and may not always be accurate. We apply safeguards to these features—learner input is length-limited and responses are returned without being stored by these features—but you should not rely on AI-generated output as professional advice. How we handle information in these features is described in our Privacy Policy.

Subscriptions and billing

Pro subscriptions may be purchased from an authorized learner account. A parent or guardian must authorize purchases for users under 13 and provide the payment details. School-authorized accounts cannot initiate self-service billing. Paid plans recur until canceled; cancellation takes effect at the end of the current billing period. Family plans include the billing owner and up to three invited accounts.

Refunds. If you cancel an annual plan within 14 days of the initial annual charge or an annual renewal, you may request a full refund of that charge by contacting us. After 14 days, canceling stops the next renewal and Pro stays active until the end of the paid year. Monthly charges are non-refundable. These terms do not limit any refund rights you have under applicable law.

Chat allowance and Gems. Pro includes a monthly allowance of chats with Ren (1,000 messages on Individual, 600 per child on Family). The allowance refreshes on the 1st of each month (UTC), does not roll over, and ends when Pro ends. A daily message limit applies to every account. Gems are earned by learning, have no cash value, cannot be bought, sold, or transferred, and may be adjusted if earned in error. Help from Ren inside lessons is not limited by Gems.

Parent referrals and free months

Adults with a parent account can share an invite link. When an invited adult opens the link, creates a new parent account, and adds a child, both families receive one free month of Pro on the Family plan. If the invited family later pays for Pro, the parent who invited them receives one more free month. A parent can earn up to three free months in any 12-month period; invited families still receive their free month after that limit. Each invited family can be referred only once, and referring yourself or an existing account does not count.

How a free month works. A free month needs no payment details and ends on its own. Nothing is charged unless you choose a plan. If you add a card before the free month ends, your chosen plan starts when the free month ends and renews automatically until you cancel; you can cancel any time before then and will not be charged. We email you a few days before a free month ends. If you already pay for Pro, a free month is applied as a credit to your next bill instead.

Free months have no cash value and cannot be transferred. When you share your link, please tell people you receive a free month if they join. We may withhold or reverse free months that result from misuse (for example, fake or duplicate accounts) and may change or end the referral program for future referrals.

Intellectual property

Big Thinkers and its content, courses, and software are owned by us or our licensors and are protected by intellectual-property laws. We grant you a limited, non-exclusive, non-transferable license to use the service for its intended educational purpose. You retain ownership of content you submit, and you grant us the limited rights needed to operate and provide the service to you.

Privacy

Our collection and use of personal information—including how we handle data from children, students, and parents, the service providers we work with, and how data may be processed in the United States—is described in our Privacy Policy, which is incorporated into these terms.

Termination

You may delete your account from Settings. Billing owners must first cancel and finish any active subscription period. Parents may revoke consent or request deletion of a child account by contacting support, and schools may offboard their student accounts. We may suspend or terminate access if these terms are violated or where necessary to protect users or comply with law. On termination, we delete or return data as described in our Privacy Policy.

Disclaimers and limitation of liability

The service is provided "as is" without warranties of any kind, to the fullest extent permitted by law. To the extent permitted by law, Big Thinkers is not liable for indirect, incidental, or consequential damages arising from your use of the service. Nothing in these terms limits any liability that cannot be limited under applicable law.

Changes to these terms

We may update these terms from time to time. If we make material changes, we will update the date above and, where appropriate, provide additional notice. Continued use of the service after changes take effect constitutes acceptance of the updated terms.
