Parental consent for children under 13

Why consent is required and how parents complete it during sign-up.

Why consent is required

Big Thinkers serves learners of all ages. For children under 13, U.S. privacy law requires verifiable parental consent before we collect personal information beyond the initial age screen.

How consent happens during sign-up

When a learner’s age indicates they are under 13, the sign-up flow asks for a parent or guardian’s email as the point of contact. We send that parent an email to review and complete consent. You can also start the process yourself at Set up your child.

After consent

Once consent is complete, the child’s account can finish onboarding and use the platform with under-13 privacy protections applied by default.

Declining or revoking consent

If you decline, the account won’t collect personal information beyond the age screen. To revoke consent later or ask us to delete your child’s data, email hello@bigthinkers.ai. See our Privacy Policy for more.
